Homework Assignment 3: Trying to Explain Job Satisfaction


Start with a COPY (not the original) of your spreadsheet for  Assiignment 1.

If you have not already done so, add the columns for Rounded Salary, Rounded Age, and College Grad?.
Fill in the data using Rounddown for the first two and If for the third,  Click here to see the formulas you will need.

Create a two-variavle Excel pivot table. Put Rounded Salary as the row variable.
Drag Jobsat (not rounded) into the data field, click on it, and change sum to average.

Create a three-variable Excel pilot table with the same  row variable and data as before, but with College Grad? as the column variable.

Make an xy scatter graph (NOT a line graph!)
with Salary as the x axis and Jobsat as the y axis (not rounded)
Procedure:
 Click the graph icon or else click "Insert" and "chart"
Select  "XY Scatter"   Do NOT click Line.  Do NOT leave it on Column.
Click "Next," then click the "Series" tab at the top.  Then click "Add."  
Click the little pointer icon at the right of the "X values" box
Select the column of Salary numbers and touch "Enter."
Click the little pointer icon at the right of the "Y values" box
Select the column of Jobsat numbers and touch "Enter."
Click on "Finish"

Right click on one of the points and insert a linear trendline.

Use the same procedure to make an xy scatter graph (NOT a line graph!)
with Education as the x axis and Jobsat as the y axis (not rounded)
Right click on one of the points and insert a linear trendline.

Mage a graph of the three-variable Excel data table, click chart, type, and select the first pictured option, side-by-side bars.
Click on the graph background and choose "Clear" to get rid of Excel's silly colored background.

Your spreadsheet should look like this

Attach your spreadsheet to an email oochitel [at] sofia [dot] whalen3 [dot] org/
 The subject line of your email must be the three characters HW3 followed by one space and yyour name.
PLEASE do not use a different subject line; it interferes with the emails going where they need to go to be graded!
Do not combine multiple assignments into the same email.

In the ***BODY*** of  the email (NOT a Word or Excelk attachment!)
include a one page essay about what a manager can learn from the analysis done in Assignment 2.

For extra credit, explore the relations between some of the other variables and job satisfaction.
